Aurora borealis on January 4

A shot of the aurora borealis I took on January 4, 2024, at a few minutes past 9 in the evening.

The aurora was barely visible to the naked eye -- just a bit of lightness on the horizon, and certainly not this beautiful aqua green. My camera captured more than I could see, thanks to some recommended settings (a wider camera aperture than I would use for photographing in the daytime, as well as a slower shutter speed of 4 seconds). Actually, I do not know whether the words aperture and shutter still apply when you are using a phone camera. At any rate, here are the Northern Lights, with aurora beams reaching higher up into the dome of the heavens. I sharpened the photo ever so slightly to make the beams clearer.

Other photographers and aurora buffs were out and about in Denmark at this time of night, and the photos they took showed a warmer green and red than my photo. It must have been on account of the cameras or phones they were using. Either way, a great (if modest) experience for us.
